Even if we’re not planning to get dressed up this year, it’s a given that our pups need to don a disguise. OK, fine, maybe they don’t exactly need to. Maybe the truth is that we can’t dress our children up anymore on Halloween, and so we take whatever silly fun we can still get. Just a theory.
Well, regardless, we are very far from alone. Everyone is dressing up their dog. I even see many folks wearing costumes that match their hound’s, a bridge too far for me. But I’m 100 percent dressing up my Pom, Peach, and thus have been poring over Amazon. I only look at those that score four stars or higher and that are made by a brand I know from experience makes the better-quality costumes. Oh, and that qualify for free shipping, naturally. I’ve also weeded out the ones that were cheesy, chintzy, or boring. We didn’t put any old thing on our toddlers, and we’re not going to start now with our fur babies. And, unlike children, our dogs won’t bark about wearing the same costume two years in a row, so if you find one you are just dying over, you know Bella will trot it out again next year.
A word about cats, if I may. The temptation is real, but I’ve not had much satisfaction trying to doll up my kitties on Halloween. In my experience, they roll around and claw at it endlessly looking entirely miserable, or they flop and refuse to move until you free them, like Chungus, affronted at being made an octopus, did a few years back. This ruins the whole effect of many costumes and so you can’t even get a good picture for your efforts.

But if your cat is unusually easy-going, by all means, give it a go. And aren’t some fancy breeds of cats said to be dog-like in their desire to please … Maine Coons, I think? The dog costumes here do work perfectly fine for cats sized down.
Now, with all that said, ready for the giggles? Me too. Here are the absolute cutest dog Halloween 2023 costumes on Amazon to match every canine (or Maine Coon, who knows) personality.
Even if you can’t stand spiders, this one will be irresistible. It’s made to be extra comfy for your poochie, so you get maximum effect with minimal weight. This eight-legged critter kind of reminds me of Wednesday’s pet, Homer, on The Addam’s Family.
