A grab-and-go gift that works for so many people

I’m always tickled when I find a universal gift. No one thing is right for everyone, obviously, but by universal gift I mean something that will be appreciated by many different types of people. The kind of gift that works for a white elephant party, the sort of gift you like to keep on hand at the holidays, just in case that neighbor or co-worker unexpectedly buys you something.

And this Bagsmart tote is all that. I’m trying to think of a woman I know who would have no use for one, and not coming up with anybody. It is tough, machine washable (a huge plus, no?), and is designed for so many scenarios: Commuting; yoga class (it actually has a special strap to hold a yoga mat); the gym; a girl’s dance or soccer bag; an overnight or weekend bag (they come in two sizes); a carry-on; a farmers market tote. You get the picture.

It comes in a slew of colors from lilac to neutral to black. I went for the mauve-y shade, shown: pretty and neutral. This classic tote also qualifies as the elusive gift for someone who has everything, because yes, they may have a tote bag they use already, but tote bags inevitably get dirty. They wear out. A fresh new one waiting in the wings is always nice.

A One-Swipe-Fits-All Set is a Pretty Perfect Present.

I’m a sucker for little beauty kits. They’re fun and make ideal gifts for so many of the women in my friend group. And the Lanolips #1 Essential Lip Tints Trio in particular I’ve gifted a couple of times. Lanolips makes really nice tinted balms, and they do it without petrolatum, parabens, mineral oil, sulfates, or artificial fragrance. The key ingredient, lanolin, mimics our skin’s oil, and is a sustainable resource. It’s a by-product of wool washing. (A sheep’s wool keeps growing and growing, so they need to be shorn regularly.) The balms are boosted with shea butter and vitamin E, a well-known antioxidant.

But what really makes these balms giftable are the sheer shades. You don’t need to wonder whether a particular shade is too bright, or too dark. That’s because they’re translucent, for that perfect pretty pop that’s never “too much.” My personal favorite of the three natural hues is Rose. Portable balms that soften lips and polish up your look with a mirror-free swipe? That’s a gift that is pretty much impossible not to love.
